Methodology
This page explains how TravelBudget.co estimates daily travel budgets by city, style, and season. The model is designed for trip planning, not exact booking quotes.
1. What We Estimate
We estimate per-person, per-day budgets for three styles: budget, mid-range, and luxury. Each estimate includes lodging, food, local transport, activities, and miscellaneous spending. Flights and long-distance intercity transport are excluded.
2. City Baselines
Each city has baseline daily ranges in USD and category shares. Category shares are applied to baseline ranges to produce concrete daily category signals used in the calculators and page content.
3. Seasonality Model
We use city-level multipliers for low, shoulder, and peak seasons. These multipliers are applied to style baselines to generate season-adjusted ranges.
4. Country/Region Aggregation
Country and region pages are aggregated from city-level values. Averages are arithmetic means across covered cities, and cheapest/most expensive labels are based on mid-range daily values.
5. Quality Controls
- Consistent schema for all city entities.
- Range sanity checks to prevent impossible values.
- Cross-page consistency checks between city, country, and region outputs.
- Build-time validation before deployment.
6. Limitations
Real prices vary by exchange rates, events, booking windows, and personal preferences. Always keep a 10-20% contingency buffer and verify critical prices before final booking.
